Next New NYC APP People Participating Playing in Parks

A version of New Media I would like to see that has not come out yet would be a person counter for small parks.  I have seen this technology used in large parks and beaches. We use counters in department stores and Malls. The technology is used to monitor how many people visit these places. It can be used to help people plan their weekends better.

I think the same technology should be used at NYC parks. I am a father of two kids, it would save me, time if I knew which local parks are already packed with people. The counter can be linked to NYC dep of parks website, which is easy to access from any smart device. I can plan my day around a park that is at half capacity so we can enjoy ourselves with a safe distance from others.  The technology is already available, the question is can we make it cheap enough for the local government to buy it and utilize it for our safety. It would be a great to social distancing to slow the spread of Covid-19. I would like to see this happen in the near future.

Wiki So Far

In our New media wiki I plan to talk contribute by adding some links and bio about sports publications like bleacher report and  Fansided which give a different view of the contests covered. A lot of down to earth fans don’t get a chance to speak or have input in the sports world unless you have a successful following or blog. Large mainstream programs on ESPN rely on ex players and reporters for opinions, and not the fans who view their programming.

I also plan to research some Covid 19 hacks for everyday life, since some of us are still bored and stuck in our homes. There are a lot of things you can do at home if you are willing to try something different or adjust a routine. There are fitness routines that help with stress of being home waiting for everything to get back to normal. The lower your stress level the better you can deal with each others hang-ups and not take it out on one another. As far as me I tend to leave closet doors and cupboards open, that drives my wife up the wall. Introducing something new and fun has helped.

P2P

Bit torrent has been around for almost twenty years, as a way to share files between people. You upload what you have and make it accessible for others and they can download form you while you download from them. That was a lot, but that is how it works. Bit torrent has everything you will need if you do not have the money to afford buying software or entertainment for your PC. You can share software, games, movies, even books.

The sharing of all of this content hacost companies millions, which have forced companies to sure up the their software with embedded protection. The person to person file sharing helps people in many different ways. Students, low income families and starving artists all use torrents like Bit torrent. Unfortunately pirates who download to sell an profit have put Bit torrent in the crosshairs for piracy lawsuits.

The founderBram Cohen has never used his file sharing website, he only coded it, and that may be the reason the site is still up today.

Privacy

Privacy is important, unfortunately the laws of online use have not been able to catch up with the times. There is a lot of gray area because the laws are not designed for the internet, they designed for everyday life, person to person. If a person  steals a bike he goes to jail. If  a person steals music he does not, he gets a fine unless he steals a lot of  music. The laws we are governed by need to include more policy to protect the public

What is public and what is personal? In the article “ The Wild West of Privacy” by Jessica Taylor, a Georgia senate candidate has a public service announcement from college completely taken out of context. The ad was to raise awareness of the dangers of alcohol abuse but is framed in a way to make him look like a frat boy who takes nothing seriously. Where do we draw the line ? There should be protections for people expressing creativity in their respective schools. Or the video should have been played in its entirety instead of taking a portion to further political agenda.

There are no laws to combat these issues. It is best that if you have aspirations of becoming a political figure, to please make sure to scrub the internet of past videos that may be taken out of context.  Good Luck.

Advice

If I was hired to improve Baruch College here are a few things I would do. I would launch a campaign to hire adviser interns who can get paid by reducing their student debt to the college. The advisement is understaffed, new students do not have the option to be on campus to learn from one another. Hours for meetings are backlogged a month behind. We do not have enough advisors and depending on the day they can be overwhelmed with the work they have to do, so you may have a situation where all of your questions are not fully explained or answered.

The one thing students constantly complain about is the cost of books, and supplies. There are many challenges students face off campus that hurt their ability to pay for books. Cost of living  and childcare are among some of the top problems students have to deal with when it comes to everyday life, paying for expensive books can put a strain on anyone trying to make it in this expensive city. Open sharing for books would help alleviate the pressures of having to choose what books you will purchase and which class you will try to manage without one.

The upskilling challenge is a great program for students to learn skills they are interested in. The CUNY pilot program offers how to learn Python, Medical software and financial analysis classes in your spare time. I hope this program continues to be offered to students after we are able to return to in person learning. This free program helps students get jobs through earning certified certificates that are accepted by many companies.

Creativity

Creativity comes from imagination, dreams and sometimes artist ability. In the article " The New Math of Mash-ups" by Sasha frere Jones, we read about artists taking a risk and jumping out of their comfort zone to create a song. Creativity embraces the new and old and jumps in with two feet. The only way we evolve is through creativity, with the help of curiosity and imagination there is no where telling where we will end up. "

Twitter serves up ideas" This article is about opening doors of a company to creativity, Twitter opened the doors to all. The company wanted to understand people better so it let users come in and put there ideas to work. This was a creativity led campaign that help make Twitter a juggernaut amongst other Social Media platforms. Sometimes you have to think outside the box.

Creativity and New Media

The virtual world of second life has relaxing background music to help guide you as you explore the different worlds offered to meet and chat with others. You have the option to build your own little slice of paradise within some of these places as you get acquainted with the system tools. I was satisfied with the fact that I could fly everywhere. My connection forced me to slow down a little and explore some of the islands with my biker vampire avatar and I enjoyed it. I think with more exploring you can really get lost and have some fun in this place. This is me getting lost in on some enchanted island. In real life  I am bald and miss having hair so I gave my avatar some, Here he is.
