Privacy

Privacy is important, unfortunately the laws of online use have not been able to catch up with the times. There is a lot of gray area because the laws are not designed for the internet, they designed for everyday life, person to person. If a person  steals a bike he goes to jail. If  a person steals music he does not, he gets a fine unless he steals a lot of  music. The laws we are governed by need to include more policy to protect the public

What is public and what is personal? In the article “ The Wild West of Privacy” by Jessica Taylor, a Georgia senate candidate has a public service announcement from college completely taken out of context. The ad was to raise awareness of the dangers of alcohol abuse but is framed in a way to make him look like a frat boy who takes nothing seriously. Where do we draw the line ? There should be protections for people expressing creativity in their respective schools. Or the video should have been played in its entirety instead of taking a portion to further political agenda.

There are no laws to combat these issues. It is best that if you have aspirations of becoming a political figure, to please make sure to scrub the internet of past videos that may be taken out of context.  Good Luck.
